Teaching
In the classroom & the lab.
I teach courses across the organic and chemical biology curriculum, and mentor students from first-year undergraduates through doctoral candidates.
Organic Chemistry I and II
A first course covering the structure and reactivity of carbon-based small molecules.
Organic Chemistry CURE Lab I and II
Student-led investigations of organocatalytic and biocatalytic synthesis of molecules of medicinal relevance.
The Molecules that Made Us
A one semester survey of the history of the chemical sciences through several guiding texts: Napoleon's Buttons, Cathedrals of Science, Uncle Tungsten, and The Periodic Table: Its Story and Its Significance.
Undergraduate researchers
We actively recruit motivated undergraduates for paid and credit-bearing research positions through ECU's URCA program, summer fellowships, and independent study. No prior research experience required — only curiosity and commitment. Fill out the interest form to get started.
Graduate students
Prospective M.S. and Ph.D. students are encouraged to apply through the ECU Department of Chemistry and mention an interest in our work. Rotations and direct-admit conversations welcome — fill out the interest form before applying so we can talk about fit and current projects.
